Tribute To Michael ‘Mick’ Ryan

Ryan’s significant contributions towards building shelters and planning evacuations, and heroic acts of kindness during the 2018 monsoon season, had saved thousands of Rohingya refugees from landslides and floods in Bangladesh refugee camps where more than a million of survivors of Myanmar’s genocide take refuge.

Rohingya Action Ireland and the Rohingya refugee community are deeply saddened on the tragic loss of one of Ireland’s brightest engineers and aid workers, who had dedicated his life to make the lives of others better and safe.

He had shown the example of love, compassion, dedication and professionalism while leading the WFP’s Engineering Division as the Global Deputy Chief Engineer.

His legacy will forever live on among the thousands of Rohingya refugees and others around the world whose lives he had saved and made better through food, sanitation and shelter at the time of dire need. There is no greater sadness than losing someone who loves and cares for others, and who has a huge potential like Ryan.

Our deepest sympathies are with his wife Naoise, two young children, mother Christina, sisters Cristin and Siobhan, and brother Tiernan.
